Please read the "Home Visit Tips" page! Alex and Faith will arrive at your residence at the scheduled appointment time.
We are both fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and will wear a mask if that is your preference. Weather permitting, we can also evaluate and treat outdoors if the environment is suitable.
Please have your dog on a leash/harness and have them go potty if needed. Time will be taken to ensure your dog is calm and accepting of our arrival. At first, we may ignore your dog until they come to us. This time can be used to discuss problems, assess the home environment, sign forms and set goals.
The initial examination usually takes about 90 minutes and consists of Alex completing a full musculoskeletal, neurological and strength testing exam. We will evaluate the dog’s gait, range of motion, analyze the weight distribution on the limbs, and you dog's functional abilities.
Often it is preferred if you are in another room as to not distract your dog. We need the pet to focus on us to get as much out of their session as possible! We are happy to take pictures and videos so you can see what your pet is doing in therapy and monitor them.
After the examination and a review of available medical records, Alex will formulate a problem list, treatment plan and goals for your dog. This information will be sent to your referring veterinarian to keep all parties on the same page. You will be given the option to start a formal rehabilitation program for your dog if indicated. An initial home exercise program will be provided if appropriate.
Our goal is to complement what your veterinarian is doing to help your dog!
Your dog's condition, your goals, and their progress in therapy will determine treatment frequency and duration recommended. We schedule as frequently as 2 days/week and as infrequently as once every 3 months. Treatment sessions are typically 45 minutes long. Please read the "Home Visit Tips" page!
